Are you thinking about boondocking with an RV? Boondocking is the act of camping in remote or wilderness areas, often without access to amenities like running water, electricity, and sewer. While this type of camping may seem intimidating at first, it can be incredibly rewarding. However, when choosing an RV for boondocking, there are certain features you’ll want to look for in order to make the experience a success. The type of RV you choose can often make or break boondocking, so it’s important to pick one that has large tank capacities, high clearance, an off-grid power system, and sufficient battery capacity. Having these features will ensure that you have the ability to stay out longer and enjoy boondocking to its fullest potential. With the right set up, boondocking can be an incredible experience that you won’t soon forget! RVT recommends keeping the following aspects in mind when searching for your next boondocking rig.

Which Type of RV is Best?

Generally, there are two types of boondocking rigs. The first type is smaller and more agile, allowing you to venture further into the wilderness, but with fewer amenities. Think of a truck camper or a lifted 4WD camper van

On the other hand, the second type of boondocking rig often entails larger RVs, such as Class A motorhomes or large travel trailers. These RVs can’t go as far off-grid but still make many boondocking sites work, with the added benefit of having more amenities. Ultimately, it’s important to choose an RV that offers you the features and convenience that best fit your boondocking needs and preferences.

When in doubt, consult with experienced boondockers for their opinions on what type of RV works best for boondocking. Doing research or asking others for advice can help to make the boondocking experience even more enjoyable. With the right setup and a bit of planning, you’ll be ready to explore off-the-beaten-path boondocking sites in no time!

Consider the Most Important Boondocking Features

No matter which type of boondocking rig you decide to go with, there are certain features that will be especially important. These include large tank capacities (fresh water, gray/black water, propane), high clearance, off-grid power systems, and sufficient battery capacity. Having these features will ensure that you can stay out longer and enjoy the boondocking experience for longer periods of time. See below for more in-depth explanations of these features.

Large tank capacities

Not connecting to water and sewer systems means that, while boondocking, you’ll need to be fully self-sufficient. While conserving water when boondocking is certainly something to learn, larger fresh water tank capacities can make the experience easier and more enjoyable. Likewise, large gray and black water tank capacities allow for the storage of larger amounts of waste water, which is also an important factor for being able to boondock for longer periods of time. Finally, the size of your propane tank can also play a factor here, as propane is often used for cooling your fridge when off-grid, as well as cooking, heating water, and running a furnace.

High clearance

When boondocking, you’ll often find yourself navigating rough terrain in order to get to the perfect site. One of the features that can make boondocking easier is high clearance, as this allows for better ground clearance and thus more freedom when it comes to boondocking. It’s important to note that sometimes trailers or vans have lower clearance than expected, so always double check the measurements. Having higher clearance will allow for more boondocking possibilities.

Off-grid power systems

An off-grid power system, such as solar panels or a generator, is an important feature when boondocking. This allows you to have access to electricity, which is essential when boondocking for extended periods of time. Having the ability  to use your RV’s power systems without external assistance is a great convenience for boondockers and can often make all the difference in terms of boondocking comfortability. Either of these power sources can be added after-market, but purchasing an RV that already has these features can make the process even simpler.

Sufficient Battery Capacity

Lastly, having sufficient battery capacity is also an important boondocking feature. Without the ability to connect to a power source, boondockers will need to rely on the ability to store energy in their batteries for most of their electrical needs. Having multiple deep-cycle batteries can ensure that boondockers have enough electricity for all the comforts that they would like while boondocking. While these can also be added after-market, it is important to ensure that there is, at the very least, sufficient space for these additions.

In conclusion, boondocking is an amazing way to explore off-the-beaten-path locations and get in touch with nature. With the right boondocking setup and a bit of planning, you’ll be ready for any off-grid adventure. If you’re interested in the process of boondocking and want to do more of it on your upcoming trips, keep all of these important features in mind when choosing your next rig. Are you a proud vintage RV owner looking for tips on how to care for your beloved vehicle? Or do you love the look of vintage RVs but are not quite sure if you are prepared to take on the job of owning one? Look no further! Vintage RVs, or recreational vehicles manufactured over 25 years ago, require extra care and maintenance due to their age. However, with the right approach, vintage RV owners can keep their vehicles in top tier condition and ensure that they look and run their best for many years to come.

RVT has collected some tips on how to care for vintage Class A, vintage Class C, or other classic RVs, including guidelines for regular cleaning and maintenance, tips for repairs, and recommendations for inspections and proper storage solutions. With these tips in mind, vintage RV owners can enjoy their ride with plenty of peace of mind. Keep reading to learn more!

1. Regular cleaning

Regular cleaning is essential for vintage RVs to maintain their appearance, prevent rust and corrosion, and extend the life of their fine components. To clean your vintage RV, use a soft cloth or sponge with a gentle, all-purpose cleaner. Avoid using harsh chemicals that may damage the paint job or components in your RV. Clean from top to bottom, inside and out, as needed. This frequency will depend on how often you use your RV, and will be less frequent for those who only use their vintage RVs a few times per year but more frequent for those who live in theirs part-time or travel often on the weekends.

2. Preventative maintenance

In addition to cleaning, preventative maintenance on vintage travel trailers or other classic RVs is essential to keep them running smoothly. For vintage motorhomes, this includes checking the batteries and other components at regular intervals, replacing fluids as needed, and inspecting hoses for any signs of wear or tear. For vintage trailers, preventative maintenance entails regularly inspecting the axles, wheels, brakes, and such, in addition to interior maintenance for any kind of retro RV. Vintage RV owners should also perform preventative maintenance on their rig prior to each use, such as filling the tires with air and checking the brake lights. Following these steps can help owners to avoid costly repairs down the road and ensure that their vintage RV runs as safely and smoothly as possible for years to come.

3. Regular inspections

Regular inspections of vintage RVs are necessary to ensure that all components and systems are functioning correctly. Vintage RV owners should either thoroughly inspect their rig or consider having their rig professionally inspected by a qualified technician at least once per year, or even more often if they use the vehicle frequently. During an inspection, owners or mechanics should be looking for any signs of wear and tear, damage due to age, and other potential issues. This will help to identify any problems with the RV before they become costly repairs, helping owners to save time and money in the long run.

4. Repair components

During routine inspections, if vintage RV owners spot any cracks, rust spots, tears in fabric, or other repair needs on their rig, they should address these issues immediately to prevent further damage and ensure that their RV maintains its value. For major repairs, owners should consider seeking professional help from an experienced vintage RV repair specialist.

5. Proper storage

Proper storage is essential to protect classic RVs from the elements and keep them in top condition over time. Vintage RV owners should store their vehicle in a sheltered area with adequate ventilation when not in use. Depending on the climate, classic RVs may need to be winterized to prevent freezing and damage from cold weather. It is also important to check on the vehicle periodically during storage, even if it isn’t being used, to make sure everything is in working order before hitting the road again.

Overall, vintage RVs require a bit more attention than recently-manufactured recreational vehicles to ensure they look and ride their best. Regular cleaning and maintenance come with the job of owning and caring for any RV, but these elements of ownership are even more pertinent in vintage rigs. In addition, routine inspections, repairs, and proper, covered storage will even further extend the life of your precious rig for years to come. By following these tips, vintage RV owners can enjoy their ride with confidence, knowing their rig is still equipped to handle the road.

Thanks for reading! We hope this article has helped you better understand the upkeep of vintage RVs and that it helps to keep vintage RVs in tip-top shape. Whether you’re looking for a vintage RV or a newer one, check out the latest listings on RVT.com. Happy travels!

Nowadays, selling recreational vehicles is a simple, straightforward process. As your pre-owned rig has been passed through various hands, you might expect it to be more difficult to sell compared to newer RVs. However, understanding various tips for selling your used Class C motorhome or other used RV, will enable you to sell quickly and effectively. For that, RVT has provided a few tips for selling your pre-owned RV to get the best value out of your motorhome.

1. Research the Value

Before you market your RV, it is crucial to understand its value. A simple way of finding out the value of your RV is to search for your model on the J.D. Powers RV Values site. From there, you can compare your RV to the average. You may need to make price adjustments depending on the state of your RV. If your motorhome has received upgrades, you can set the price slightly higher than the average. However, if your RV has a few problems, it is a good idea to reduce the price. Another easy way to determine the value of your RV is to search for similar units for sale online. RVT’s price checker feature allows you to search for similar RVs in our marketplace and check J.D. Power’s RV Values simultaneously.

2. List the RV on an Online Marketplace

Online marketplaces are the perfect place to sell your pre-owned RV, especially if you plan on selling your motorhome fast. As a simple, effective way to market your rig, these websites, including RVT, will help you with this process. Listing your RV on online platforms like RVT.com is a simple, effective way to market your RV. Your fifth wheel, travel trailer, folding trailer, or other type of RV can be viewed at any time of day by potential buyers who are already searching for their next recreational vehicle.

3. Use Physical Signage

Another simple, yet strategic tip for selling your pre-owned RV is to post a ‘for sale’ sign on your RV. One of the best ways to gain interest in your RV is to advertise in populated, frequented areas where it can be observed by camping consumers. Places such as campsites or along high-traffic roads will provide ample viewing for your rig. The major drawback to this method, however, is that it can be limiting – it will only be viewed during high traffic times throughout the day.

4. Be Detailed and Helpful

Whether you decide to sell online or use physical signage, it is imperative to provide all relevant details about your RV. Include the model, year, mileage, dimensions, and any other detail that the customer should know. Grab your favorite camera and take multiple, clear photos displaying your motorhome at every angle from both the exterior and interior. Even if you are not a photographer, it is useful for the potential buyer to view your RV in the best way possible. Better pictures will oftentimes generate more interest, so be sure to take pictures where your rig is clearly visible.

Additionally, it is important to include detailed information about your motorhome. Provide comprehensive descriptions that paint a good picture of the RV. Include special features or any upgrades that you added to your motorhome, which will help bolster its value. List all regular maintenance executed to verify that you are selling a well-maintained rig. Likewise, this will educate the customer of the routine maintenance required for your RV.

Be open about any flaws or damage to your motorhome. If possible, make the repairs prior to taking pictures. Once the flaws have been fixed, post the pictures on an online marketplace like RVT.com.

Encourage prospective buyers to take an in-person tour of your RV. While the potential buyer tours your vehicle, highlight both the pros and cons. This transparency will give the customer more confidence that they can trust you. If a customer seems very interested in your RV, make it a priority to respond to them quickly and offer a great service. Your organization and efficiency during this process will garner quicker offers.

Selling a pre-owned RV has its challenges. However, if you are transparent and market your motorhome in a simple, effective way, you might be surprised how many inquiries you receive.

Ultimately, a well-used motorhome that’s been taken care of is more desirable than a newer, neglected rig. Repair as much as possible and sell your RV at an honest value. Looking for more information about selling your unit on RVT? Our recent article How to List Your RV on RVT provides some simple steps. As warm weather creeps in, you may be itching to rouse your Class C motorhome, travel trailer, or other RV from its winter hibernation and hit the road. As warm weather creeps in, you may be itching to rouse your Class C motorhome, travel trailer, or other RV from its winter hibernation and hit the road. Spring break is the perfect chance to take your family and friends on a week-long getaway to soak in the beautiful, crisp spring air and surround yourself with blossoming nature. As campgrounds fill quickly during this time of year, it may seem stressful booking a spot for spring break. To help out, RVT has provided a few tips on how to strategically book a campsite during spring break.

1. Do your research

With thousands of campsite options to choose from during your spring break vacation, booking can become overwhelming. Filter your preferences and select destinations that best fit your plan. Research a few different campsite spots and be sure to explore other nearby sites if you are unsuccessful with your first option. As spring break is a great time for events, it is beneficial to call the campground to ensure these events will not impact campsite availability or accessibility. This may also dictate your choice—if you are looking for a lively spring break vacation spot, search for destinations in the south that tend to be warmer in the spring. On the other hand, if you desire a more serene, peaceful destination, you may want to check out chillier spring destinations in the north, as fewer vacationers gravitate to a cold environment during spring break.

2. Book early

With many people eager to escape their winter haven and ready for adventure, spring break camping destinations tend to be popular across the nation. For that, it is imperative to be proactive. Begin planning your trip during the winter season and book as early as possible. This will give you a leg up and allow you to get the campsite you want.

If you wish to camp at a national park, be ready to book as soon as reservations are available. Set reminders on your phone or other electronic devices, so that you and your family do not miss the opportunity to make a reservation.

Due to their popularity, national parks fill up very fast, so don’t be upset if you cannot reserve a space. Continue checking back to see if any sites have opened up.

Pro Tip: Keep your dates flexible and widen your range on campsites – this may provide more availability.

For more available sites, consider visiting a state park or a private campground for spring break. Various resources are accessible to provide booking windows for campsites. Check out popular reservation websites and apps, including Recreation.gov, ReserveAmerica.com, and thedyrt.com.

Private campgrounds are innumerable, making these campsites readily available for spring break excursions. Various websites and apps make booking simple. For example, RoadTrippers.com and the KOA app are a couple useful resources that make campsite booking streamlined and easily manageable.

3. Forgo the popular destinations

If you are unsuccessful in booking your dream spring break destination, have a backup plan and forgo the popular destination. Instead, choose a campsite that still meets your needs. If you still cannot find a campsite, consider altering your expectations. For example, campgroundviews.com features over 16,000 campgrounds and gives the user the ability to select amenities. By refraining from filtering your desired amenities, you will have better luck finding an available campsite that might be outside your preferences, yet still provide enough amenities for it to be enjoyable. Depending on the attraction, it is ideal to set your radius scope between 50 to 100 miles from your destination.

Choosing a secondary destination also has its perks. First, you are more likely to find an adequate campsite that ticks all your “needs”. Additionally, as the less-popular option for spring break vacationers, the campsite will be less touristy, giving you more freedom to enjoy nature in a less rowdy, peaceful setting.

Whether you plan to book your spring break vacation at a national park or a private campground, it is essential to research beforehand. Reserve your space as early as possible since most spots fill up instantly. Don’t forget to widen your parameters, as you will discover more excellent, available campground choices that you won’t want to miss. If you are in search of a  diesel pusher, toy hauler or other RV for your spring break adventure this season, be sure to check out the online marketplace on RVT.com for new and used RVs near you.

What’s the Best Time of Year to Buy a New RV? https://www.rvt.com/blog/buying-and-selling/whats-the-best-time-of-year-to-buy-a-new-rv/ https://www.rvt.com/blog/buying-and-selling/whats-the-best-time-of-year-to-buy-a-new-rv/#respond Wed, 01 Mar 2023 13:00:00 +0000 https://www.rvt.com/blog/?p=16143 What’s the Best Time of Year to Buy a New RV?

As RV season approaches and you start looking forward to campfires and road trips, perhaps you’ve realized it’s time to buy a new RV. You want to get the best deal possible, but when is the best time to purchase? As demand for RVs tends to fluctuate, it can be challenging to figure out. RVT has gathered some insights to help you determine the best time of year to purchase your new toy hauler, camper van, or other new RV.

Warmer Season or Colder Season

If you are considering purchasing an RV, take a moment and picture yourself in the seller’s shoes. If you had a new Class A motorhome for sale (or any other RV), you would most likely want to sell when demand is high—during warmer months. Because of this, there are ample recreational vehicles available during these times of the year on various marketplaces. Though the selection is widespread, dealerships, in particular, are less likely to provide any deal or discount due to increased demand.

On the other hand, purchasing a new RV during the colder season has its perks. The main reason is also due to demand—dealerships are much more willing to offer a deal because of the lower demand for RVs in the winter.

RV sales at dealerships tend to drop just after camping season ends—at the end of September and early October. Consequently, some of the best months to purchase a new RV are between November and January. This shopping season can be extended if you consider purchasing an RV located in the northern states. Since they experience cold weather longer than southern states, you may have an opportunity for great deals as early as September and until late February. Southern states may have fewer seasonal discounts because of their year-round camping appeal.

When you negotiate the deal with the dealership, ensure that you are provided with a warranty. Since new RVs typically come with a warranty, it is wise to ask for an extended warranty or discounts on accessories if the dealership is unwilling to knock the price down during the colder season.

Benefits of Hitting “The Right Season”

Waiting until the demand is lower has its advantages. First, you will save quite a bit of money up front if you are presented with a great deal. Additionally, this may enable you to upgrade to a slightly more state-of-the-art model if the cost remains in your price range.

Visit RV Shows

Traveling to an RV show to be up close to your dream RV is advantageous. It allows you to experience the vehicle first-hand, gives you an opportunity to ask the salesperson questions about the rig, and enables you to view numerous motorhomes that pique your interest. In fact, some RV shows include over 1,000 motorhomes. As most dealerships are not eager to haul the RVs back to their respective lots, you may be able to strike a deal or discount that you otherwise wouldn’t at the dealership.

Other Opportune Times

The cold season is not the only time of year that’s ideal for purchasing a new RV. Other factors, such as buying on a holiday weekend during dealership sales, or when gas prices increase and shopper competition is lower, giving you an upper hand during negotiations, may also give you an opportunity for a deal. Likewise, the release of a brand-new model will force dealerships to sell off their older inventory to make room for the new units. Take advantage of this and negotiate!

Do Your Homework

Studying the current trends in the market may also help. If a dealership is offering you a discount that seems too good to be true, make sure the salesperson is not selling you a dud. Research the models you’re interested in and check out authentic reviews from other RV owners at sites like RVInsider before you commit. Go online to various dealerships and RV marketplaces like RVT to compare prices before you buy your new RV. RVT’s price checker can be a helpful tool as you research different models.

Buying a new RV is an exciting time for the prospective RVer, though it can be daunting. Do not be too hasty, however, and purchase your RV at the wrong time of the year. Wait until the demand for new RVs wanes in the colder months, or for other opportune times of the year. Your patience in the short term will pay off in the long run – enabling you to strike a great deal. If you are ready to explore new or used RVs, check out the online marketplace at RVT.com.

Recreational vehicles are built for many years of enjoyment on the road, and that’s what they’ll provide so long as you keep up with regular RV maintenance. But what if your older motorhome needs a refresh, or you recently purchased a vintage camper with wear and tear? Whether you want to improve a RV to provide an elevated camping experience for yourself or you’re hoping to flip the rig for resale in order to turn a quick profit, RVT has eight easy tips for fixing up an older RV.

1. Wash and Wax

One of the first tips to fix up your Class A motorhome or other RV is to thoroughly wash the exterior. Use a cleaning solution strong enough to remove any difficult residue, along with a car-washing mitt or sponge. There are many green cleaning solutions available. Once your unit is sparkling clean, apply a fresh coat of wax suitable for recreational vehicles to give your camper a good-as-new shine. Don’t apply wax in direct sunlight and only do a small section at a time to prevent the wax from drying too quickly.

2. Deep Clean and Prep the Interior

As you will spend most of your time inside your renovated camper, it is important to deep clean your RV’s interior. Appliances should be moved for more accessibility to the hard-to-reach areas. Make touch-ups to all surfaces: wood surfaces should be re-sanded and apply caulk to any cracks in the walls or countertops.

3. Fresh Paint Job

Whether you have recently purchased an old RV, or you are restoring your well-loved Class C, fifth wheel, or travel trailer, all RVs at some point will need a new paint job. This is a simple, low-cost way to make your rig more aesthetically pleasing. Remove any decals, wallpaper borders, and necessary fixtures. Do not remove the textured wallpaper on the walls, however. It isn’t intended to be removed. Clean the walls with a degreaser, do any necessary patching, and apply a bonding primer before you paint. Then apply at least two coats of fresh color to create a more modern feel. When painting the outside of your rig, it is important to purchase the correct type of paint for your RV’s exterior. Check with your dealer or manufacturer for recommendations.

4. Clean Frames and Covers

As your RV has been exposed to numerous weather conditions over the years, it is likely that discoloration has formed along the frames of the windows and doors. Instead of purchasing new frames and covers, it may be more cost-effective to remove these parts and thoroughly wash each component in hot, soapy water. Apply a couple fresh coats of paint and re-install once dry.

5. Upgrade Furniture and Appliances

After years of use, it is likely that your RV’s furniture is worn, stained, and dirty. Replacing or reupholstering the furniture will enhance the overall aesthetic and give your RV a fresh look and smell. For a completely refreshed look, consider changing the fixtures and appliances as well.

6. Replace Flooring

Your RV’s floor has been subject to a lot of wear and tear. Replacing it is another great way to refresh your camper or motorhome. One cost-effective solution for an instant change is press-and-stick vinyl tiles. Other solutions may include vinyl plank or porcelain tile. Keep in mind that lighter flooring, such as laminate, is a better option than real hardwood, as adding weight will slow down your camper, leading to lower gas mileage. If your rig has water damage or major cracks and dents in the flooring, you will likely need a professional crew to fix it.

7. Electrical and Mechanical Repairs

Simple fixes, such as changing lightbulb fixtures or the RV’s battery, may be something you’re comfortable doing yourself, but overall it is best to consult with a licensed electrician or mechanic for electrical and mechanical repairs. It is crucial to get the inner workings of your RV up to speed so you don’t have any issues while you’re out on the road.

8. Replace Tires

If your RV has been idle for a long time, or if you’ve traveled a lot, your tires will likely need to be replaced. Here are some tips to look for when it’s time to replace new trailer tires. For safety, check your tires regularly.

Though fixing up your old RV may seem like a cumbersome task, following these tips will make updating your motorhome exciting. After all, if you plan to spend more time in the RV, you and your guests will feel much more comfortable cruising and exploring in a rig that is well equipped with newer, updated fixtures. If you’re wondering whether to renovate or buy a newer unit, these 12 key considerations may help you decide. When you are ready to purchase a newer RV, check out the current listings on the RVT marketplace.

  1. Set a Competitive Price
For help determining the current market value of any new or used RV, use the price checker and JD Power RV Values search features on RVT.com. These will run simultaneous searches on RVT and JD Power, showing you what’s out there matching your unit and the current value for it. Once you’re familiar with the average price for your Class A RV or other unit, you can set your own price competitively.
  1. Take Clear Photos and/or Video of Your Unit
This is a key component of selling your RV. Buyers want to see clear pictures of everything, including bathrooms, bedrooms, storage, cockpit, and exterior. Also take shots of any special features your RV has. Ensure your RV is clean and polished before you take your pictures. If possible, take your photos on a sunny day, and include exterior photos taken at different angles. For more insight, check out these great tips for how to take picture-perfect photos of your RV. Consider also adding a video to provide potential buyers with a virtual walkthrough of your RV. Once you’ve taken your photos and video, upload them to your listing.
  1. Write a Comprehensive and Compelling Ad Description
Beyond listing basics like year, make, model, length, price, and type, take the time to highlight all the best features of your RV. The more comprehensive your description, the fewer questions you may have to field from interested buyers later. Some points to include: why you’re selling your RV, prior maintenance, any issues which may be outstanding, upgrades added, warranty information and transfer fees (if applicable), plus payment options. If you are firm on the price, let them know that in your ad.

  2. Preview Your Ad and Checkout
Once you’ve reviewed your ad and it’s to your satisfaction, submit your listing and complete the easy check-out process. All listings go through a screening process and, when approved, go live within 48 hours. Your RV will now be visible to millions of RV buyers. Changes and updates can be made to your ad anytime from your “MyRVT” user panel.

Remember to respond promptly when you receive inquiries about your unit. Buyers who are actively searching likely won’t wait long before moving on to the next RV on their list.

Preparing Your RV for Sale

Thoroughly Clean Your RV
A clean unit is imperative both for photos and for in-person walk-throughs with potential buyers. It’s easier to sell a clean RV, and you’ll likely get a better price for it. Clean your RV inside and out, consider shampooing the carpets and polishing the exterior. Don’t forget to regularly wipe down any commonly touched areas, including the steering wheel (if applicable), table, cupboard pulls, appliances, etc.

Fix Anything That’s Broken
Now that your rig is clean, fix any minor issues like missing screws, burnt out lightbulbs, broken fixtures etc.

Check Your Systems
Make sure all your systems are running properly, including air conditioning and furnace, pipes, water pump, water heater, and the holding tanks. For motorhomes, ensure the engine is running properly. Make sure any major issues are fixed.

Take Note of Upgrades
Let buyers know of any upgrades you’ve made and remove anything you aren’t selling with the RV. For example, if you’re keeping your lithium ion battery or solar kit, make sure it isn’t displayed with the RV, or disclose to potential buyers that they aren’t included.

Make Sure You Have the Title for Your RV
If you don’t have title documents, make sure you get a new one before you try to sell your RV. Each state/province has different requirements to get a new title, but providing the bill or sale and the VIN number is a good start. Get in touch with your local DMV for the exact requirements.

We hope these tips help you as you list your RV for sale on RVT. Wondering about selling safely? Check out these tips for safe transactions when buying or selling an RV. If you are looking for a new or used RV, check out all the units available across the US and Canada on RVT.com

Vacationers from all over the country gather in this quaint area on the Virginia Eastern Shore to marvel at this majestic occurrence. While you’re there, take time to enjoy the plentiful amenities. If you plan on staying a few extra days, once most tourists depart, you will be able to experience the normal, halcyon life on the island.

Summers in Arizona are often scorching and the winters can be cold, particularly near the Grand Canyon’s South Rim, where daytime temperatures average around 40ºF. The most ideal time to visit the Grand Canyon is during the spring, when crowds are fewer and the weather is warming up. By March, the surface temperature is about 51ºF, while in the canyon, it’s a balmy 71ºF.  You can explore this Natural Wonder while enjoying various activities, including kayaking and hiking. As many Americans flock to this famous landmark throughout the year, camping spaces are sometimes limited, so it is essential to reserve a spot at a campsite far in advance before spring break.

  1. Orlando, Florida

Though Orlando is typically associated with theme parks, the city and its neighboring areas possess fantastic spots for the vacationer desiring a warm, yet lively spring break. By spring break, its popularity declines, providing the perfect opportunity to explore the area in your Class A motorhome or other RV. Once you’ve finished exploring the metropolitan area, head over to Lake Apopka to tap into your nature side. Here, you can escape the liveliness while kayaking, boating, and fishing.

You have cruised the country and explored the great outdoors with your friends and family. However, you’ve decided it’s time to upgrade, downsize, or take a break from RVing entirely. Now you’re considering selling your RV, but when is the best time of year to sell your RV? Selling your motorhome or camper at its maximum value is something all used RV sellers desire. Read on to discover which season is optimal for selling your motorhome and other factors that may influence when it is ideal to sell.

Best Time to Sell

Typically, late winter into early spring (late January until the end of March) is the most ideal time of year to sell your travel trailer, fifth wheel, or other type of RV. Putting your rig on the market early in the year and having patience will buy you some time to make the sale less time-constraining. As camping season quickly approaches, hopeful prospective RVers will set their sights on purchasing a recreational vehicle. You can take advantage of this opportunity by offering your RV at a reasonable price, which may attract more potential buyers. It is ideal to put your rig on the market before RV sales are at its peak. This will catch shoppers before the market gets saturated with other tempting RV models and help maximize your selling price. Listing your RV for sale on an online marketplace, such as RVT, exposes more prospective RV owners to your unit. They can see photos and ask questions before coming to see it, which may help separate the serious buyers from the lookers.

High Demand

Though there are “best months” to sell your RV, it is important to keep other factors in mind that could influence the best time of the year to sell your RV. For example, market conditions throughout the year may also help optimize your sale, including a high demand for used RVs. In particular, the weeks leading up to spring break are a prime time of the year to sell your used Class A motorhome or other recreational vehicle. Many wishful families plan vacations after being cooped up in their house during the winter, and they are eager to venture out. Since demand for RVs spikes just before spring break, you can capitalize on this opportunity. Likewise, geographical location may play a factor in the demand for your RV. If you live in a populated area in the south, you may have better luck at any time of the year compared to those who live in a rural, northern part of the country.

Low Inventory of New RVs

As with all products, RV dealerships experience bouts of high and low inventory throughout the year. Timing the sale of your used RV when dealerships are experiencing low inventory could pay off, especially if you own a model that is highly coveted. Another advantage of low supply of new RVs mixed with a high demand for RVs will increase the value of your RV. You might be able to sell your used RV at a slightly higher price than its normal market value.

Research

It is not enough to simply know what months are optimal to sell your RV, it is also beneficial to know how to sell your RV during these peak months. Online marketplaces will give you an indication whether the market is in high demand for used RVs. Check various platforms frequently, including RVT.com, to gauge the popularity of used RVs. Overall, RV popularity has increased since the pandemic, which is beneficial for a used RV seller – the demand for both new and used RVs currently is high.

Whether you are ready to sell your RV or not, understanding optimal times of the year for the market will help you out when you are ready to let go of your rig. Various factors come into play, especially if demand is high or if new RV inventory is low. Do your research before you place your RV on the market.
If you are considering selling your RV and are interested in buying a different unit, check out the current listings on RVT.com for your next purchase.

Living in an RV does not mean that you have to miss out on your favorite coffee. Although it may not be practical to take large coffee machines with you in your Class B, folding trailer, or other RV, there are still plenty of options when it comes to brewing high-quality coffee on the road.

Your Best Options When Making Coffee in an RV

For a coffee making device to be suitable for taking in an RV, ideally it’s able to function without electricity and is easy to clean and store.

With this criteria in mind, your three best options are:

  1. French Press
  2. Pour Over
  3. Moka pot

To help you choose which method is most suitable for you, here is a breakdown of the different options.

French Press: Best for Families

Person making coffee in French Press and pouring it into a cup
Person making coffee using a French Press

What is a French Press

A French Press is a cylindrical pot where you steep coffee grounds in boiling water before plunging it. French Press coffee is also commonly known as “plunger coffee”.

Who is a French Press Most Suitable For?

The main advantage that a French Press has over the other types of RV-friendly coffee makers is that you can make several cups of coffee simultaneously. A standard sized French Press can make three cups of coffee in one brew. Ideal for groups and families.

How to Make the Best Possible Coffee Using a French Press

To make the best possible coffee in a French Press you want to use coarsely ground coffee. Typically this coffee is labeled as being for French Press.

Other than coarseness, the other variables in making coffee in a French Press are your coffee-to-water ratio and steeping time. Ideally you want to use a coffee to water ratio of 1:14. This roughly means that for every eight-ounce cup of coffee that you want to make you should use three tablespoons of coffee.

You should brew your French Press coffee for 4-6 minutes. The longer you brew, the stronger your coffee will be.

Pour-Over Coffee: Best for Couples Traveling Together

Person making pour-over coffee outside with campstove nearby
Person making pour-over coffee

What is Pour-Over Coffee?

Pour-over coffee is the closest you can get to using a filter coffee machine in your RV. It involves pouring boiling water through coffee grounds held in a conical coffee filter made out of paper or wire mesh.

Although some use a paper filter, a wire mesh pour-over coffee filter is better for using in an RV as it can be cleaned and reused, meaning you never have the problem of running out of filters.

Who is the Pour-Over Most Suited For?

With the pour-over method, you can usually make two cups of coffee without needing to replace your grounds or change/clean your filter.

Therefore, it’s most suited for couples RVing together who both drink coffee, or for one person who enjoys more than one coffee to start their day.

How to Make the Best Possible Coffee with a Pour Over

To make the best possible pour-over coffee you should wet your grounds with a small amount of boiling water before you start pouring water through them.

This is called “blooming” the coffee and will cause the ground coffee to release some of its oils which enhances the flavor of the final drink.

Once the coffee has bloomed for 30 seconds, simply pour the water through the coffee. Try to pour with a swirling motion so the water is not concentrated on a certain part of the coffee grounds.

Again, a 1:14 coffee to water ratio is perfect for a pour over.

Moka Pot: Best for Espresso Drinkers

Person making coffee in a moka pot on an RV stove
Person making coffee in a moka pot

What is a Moka Pot?

A moka pot is a stovetop pot that forces boiling water through coffee at a pressure of 2-3 bars.

Since the defining quality of espresso is that it is brewed under a high pressure, moka pots make coffee closer to an espresso than the other options listed here.

Who is a Moka Pot Most Suited For?

A moka pot is most suited to RVers who enjoy drinking espresso.

While a moka pot will not technically make an espresso, the coffee that it creates does have several espresso-like qualities, including a rich flavor and thick consistency.

You can make two double espressos in one go with a moka pot, making it ideal for couples.

How to Make the Best Possible Coffee in a Moka Pot

You want to use medium-fine ground coffee in a moka pot. If the coffee is too fine, the pot will get clogged up. If it is too coarse, the coffee will be weak.

You want to use a coffee to water ratio of 1:7, meaning that for a double shot of espresso you want to use two tablespoons of coffee.

To use a moka pot, fill the bottom chamber with room temperature water and the middle chamber with the coffee. Put the moka pot on a medium-low flame on your hob.

Your coffee is ready when the top of the pot is steaming so vigorously that you can hear the lid shaking.

Enjoy Coffee on the Road
There are few things more enjoyable than that first sip of coffee in a new location with a scenic view. If you are still looking for your perfect new or used RV to enjoy your coffee in, check out the amazing selection of RVs for sale on RVT.com.
